Bowling and beer

Amy and Leigh took us to the Commodore lanes bowling alley last night. A brilliantly eccentric place where I managed to come last in all but one of our games, but hey, we were all winners after three pitchers of Granville Island lager.

It might look like I know what I'm doing, but I think I scored zero on this round

A rare photo of me smiling

I looked around for the equivalent Lady Gaga + Darren but couldn't find it

Above the bar

Off the wagon...

And so, as we come to the end of March, the clocks go forward and Matt starts drinking...

Every thursday we go to the pub, this week about half of the team were leaving so I thought I'd dedicate this post to meeting the team.

This is Matt, the best getaway driver this side of the border

Duncan. Special weapons and tactics.

Hailey. Karate expert
Louie. Explosives and demolitions
Daniel. Recon and surveillance
Daryl.A nice guy but you have to check your pockets after he shakes your hand
Sean. Hypnotist and Mind control

Jeremy. Thug

And you all know what he's capable of...

Duane. Our Glorious leader

Deep Cove

Yesterday a few of us went hiking up at Deep Cove just to the north of Vancouver. The village is a bit of a millionaires retreat with some really lovely houses built on the side of the hills overlooking the lake. Next time I come over, I'll request that MPC put me up here I think

The walk took us through some woods where I was very disappointed not to see a Bigfoot
At the top we had views across the lake and south to Vancouver

This is Hailey and Matt, fellow previsers and friends of Mike Cottee ( that's not a euphemism for those who don't know Mike, he's an old friend of mine and these guys worked with him on Happy Feet2)

And this is them again with Duncan,Our editor who's a fellow Brit and Lena another friend of theirs from Happy Feet
Another long walk through a forest...

...Took us back to the whole point of coming to Deep Cove... Doughnuts!

The Deep Cove doughnuts are legendary and it more than made up for not seeing a bigfoot.

For most of our time here the mountains have been covered in cloud but the last few days we've been getting views like this.

The Harbour centre

The Harbour centre in Downtown Vancouver has a viewing deck with a 360 degree view of the city. We went up it last night just as the sun was setting

Roadtrip part 3...

Having escaped the murderers we headed up to Whistler for a spot of lunch. The landscape up to Whistler was pretty impressive but unfortunately mainly shrouded in clouds.

This is Whistler
Where it began to snow pretty heavily

Coming out of Whistler we passed a frozen lake, look, it's behind me, honest

We passed it again on the way back and the blizzard had cleared completely

Roadtrip part 2

Are you a murderer? Having difficulty finding the perfect place to dump those corpses? Don't be squeamish, come to Squamish.
Our destination for saturday evening was Squamish, a small town geared to outdoor pursuits...and murder.

It definitely felt like the sort of place we'd find Laura Palmer wrapped in plastic.

Have a look

Our ultimate destination for the saturday night was the Howe Sound Inn and Brewery

Where after a quick tour of the brewery we had a bit of a tasting. Of course, Matt isn't drinking remember, so it was just a tasting. A five hour tasting.
They had a 10% stout called Mega Destroyer, that tasted like Guinness with a cough medicine dropped in it

This huge bit of rock overlooks the town, I think the locals call it Big Rock. I guess it saves any confusion.

On the sunday, pursued by imaginary murderers we headed further up into the mountains

Faster Matt they're after us!
